To clarify on instances like these, I was essentially reduced to a drug dealer for some people who needed their art fix but wanted an easy out for actually paying me and thus, over the years I've had people charge back a good chunk of money just because they over-spent and realized too late. Which hurts me because that was time I could have spent working for other clients with more reliable payment methods. Thankfully over the years I've just stopped working for the sort of people who would do this to me but it can still happen.

This is based off of a specific person and a single incident. We've filed off the names and things to keep from revealing who, but there actually was a person who reversed charges on over $600 worth of commissions, went on a vacation, and claimed his bank did it then had the gall to come back and ask for another commission. Later, he admitted "his parents made him do it" (another lie) and made out that he wanted to just be friends with Fox again, but when she told him they can be friends without him commissioning her he showed his true colors and exploded at her for "ruining his day" (I'm leaving his profanity out). Because, you know, having rent money suddenly vanish from your bank account doesn't ruin someone's day too, right? I think he later went on a tirade on one of his journals about how Fox was the bad guy because she wouldn't give him 'closure'. And I suppose by 'closure' he meant 'art slave' or something. Lovely person. I'm pretty certain he was bipolar and really needed to be put on some hardcore meds considering his almost daily tantrums towards people who tried to get him to see reason in situations where he was being greedy and narcissistic.
Nine hells..so I take it, my lady. You were warned of this individual...I think, I know the name (I'll keep my muzzle shut but, I believe the name was leaked out during a stream) Madame Fox, had to do emergency commissions. I was living in Cali at the time, if I remember the year.
I didn't have the full details. I thought this was multiples...not one single entity....yeesh

Problem is one or two warnings aren't necessarily enough to make you not do business with someone, if you aren't big enough yet to be able to apply a stricter filter.
I have no idea when this happened, or if she was or was not warned about the individual, but unless it was someone she personally knows and trusts warning her, why would she turn down 600 in commissions?
I don't know fox other than her art, and I certainly don't know the one who did this to her, but without being fully aware of the circumstances, and only knowing fox's side of the story, I have to say that even if she was warned a bit about the person he is still the one fully at fault. Just a shame banks don't have any protections in place that can be used by artists to prevent scummy behavior like that in the first place.

No-one warned me about them, It was more that they did this out of the blue. I had a wonderful rapport with them, they always paid on time usually. There were a few times things slipped and I'd let them pay later. But when the chargebacks came and KEPT COMING I stopped taking commissions from them and threatened to tell every artist beware I could get ahold of if they didn't pay me back. They did and then tried to get work from me again... I found out they were pretendng to be someone else and they got really angry at me for ruining thier day by not giving them closure and doing commissions for them again.
Closure...after stealing from you? ....cause that makes sense.
I am sorry you suffered so, Madame. Though, I know my apologies will do scant help, to remove the sting of the past.
Does seem a bit...sudden to flip the switch and commit such an act...I wonder if you were no their only victim

I've had that happen to me for physical LED items I've mailed to them and acknowledged they receiving it. Then did a charge back, and somehow won. I think they real solution to this problem is... DON'T USE PAYPAL. I am dropping it. And will either use my own e-commerce from my bank that accepts credit cards directly. Or try Square.
Theres also people who always commission, find some tiny flaw to complain about, and charge back.
I cannot name names...But several were really infamous for this; going through a series of new online names to hide their identity, hitting new artists, and doing everything they could to continue the scamming until they were finally hunted down and exposed.

omg i think i would lose my collective shit and a half..
i'm so sorry you had to deal with this absolute moose knuckle. that is really nuts.
it's a shame paypal can't implement some kind of feature to prevent this sort of thing from happening so often. there are way more horror stories about this type of thing than there should be :c

Wow, cool! When I view this comic under black light, the bad person's username and RL name come out all over the background like wall paper and an image of their ID card...
Wait, I wasn't supposed to mention that, was I?
The only thing worse than a loser user is a self-righteous user. I'm truly sorry that happened to you.
